I get the feeling that this is going to be a pattern throughout the season:  My Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets playing when I least expect it.
MERLIN:  Well, you’re not expecting them to go to the playoffs, either, so is that a good sign?
VENOMOUS:  Point.
Anyway, it’s the second week of the hah skrewl  (a little Rush lingo, there) season tonight, so this must be…(checks)…aha, I thought so – Azle’s Hornets.  Heights won last year’s game, 20-7, so I’ll look for a repeat.
Now it’s time for the colleges to get into the act.  Brigham Young’s Cougars loved it so much in the Metroplex last year (), that they’re back for a return engagement on Saturday at Cowboys Stadium – this time against Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners (OU’s the home team in this case).
Vegas has the line at OU minus 22½, which means they’ll win by 7.
Not to be outdone, Turner Gill’s UBuffalo Bulls are also coming to Texas – all the way Out In The West Texas Town Of El Paso…uh, sorry, started channeling a little Marty Robbins there…to play the UTEP Miners.  UTEP’s actually favored by 8½ in this one, which sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Also on Saturday, Bo Pelini’s Nebraska Cornhuskers start with a feast called Florida Atlantic up in Lincoln.  Vegas has the Huskers as a 23-point favorite – and I’ll be sorely disappointed if it isn’t at least half again that.
So, I think, will Bo Pelini.
The Dallas C’boys are still in preseason, so Friday they’ll be up in Minne-haha taking on the ViQueens Favres in the last game thereof.  The starters may  get a couple plays in on the first series.
UPDATE:  Oh, yeah, right – Texas Christian University is off this week.
We’re back Monday for the recap.  In the meantime, we note – with some amusement – that Bucky is only a 17-point favorite at home to Northern Illinois.  Perhaps HDD will be so kind as to tell us why…?
