‘Tis the beginning of the end at the offices of the Perfect Football Weekend™ – for some folks, anyway.
The high school playoffs get underway this weekend, which means that for my Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets, it’s their annual trek to the Land Of One And Done™.
Or is it?  They catch Seguin HS out of Arlington tonight, and Seguin’s record (4-6, 4-0), while nothing to sneeze at, doesn’t look all that great – and if you’ll recall, I’ve never been too fond of playoff teams with losing records.
That said, Heights’ playoff record the last few years has been, well, abysmal.  So we’ll see.
Also tonight, Turner Gill’s UBuffalo visit Ohio one more time to play the University of Akron Zips.  Realm™ Intelligence…
KORRIOTH:  Damned oxymoron, if you ask me.
VENOMOUS:  Now, now.  I let you zap ’em with the painstick, didn’t I?
KORRIOTH:  For all of three fucking seconds!
VENOMOUS:  I know, I know.  But I have to keep ’em around as long as I can, ’cause no one wants to endure your boot camp.
KORRIOTH:  It is an honor  to sit in one of my classes!
VENOMOUS:  Tell them that with the agonizers off  their genetalia.
KORRIOTH:  (grunt)
…having been properly chastised, tells us that Vegas has the Bulls as a 3½-point road dog.  UBuff therefore has to keep it under two touchdowns for it to count, but I think they could win this one.
Saturday, Nebraska will travel to Manhattan, Kansas, to take on the Wildcats of K-State.  K-State is pretty much playing out the string, having already fired head coach Ron Prince, but the Huskers shouldn’t take this one lightly – K-State isn’t.
“I don’t think anybody’s not had lingering feelings over that game,” K-State defensive end Ian Campbell said. “Plus, I mean, it’s Nebraska. If you’re a K-State fan, the Nebraska game is a big game.
“You don’t want to get beat like that by a rival or anybody. It sits sour with a lot of people, fans and players included.”
Oh, I certainly understand – I haven’t forgotton 81-16 at the hands of the TU Shortdicks.  Nevertheless, Mr. Campbell, I trust you’ll forgive me if I still want NU to win.
Sunday evening brings the game I’m dreading – the Dall-assed Cupcakes in the rematch against the Warshingt’n F’skins.
MERLIN:  You mean “Washington”.
KORRIOTH:  You mean “Redskins”.
VENOMOUS:  What’d I tell you the first time???
MERLIN, KORRIOTH:  (ulp!)
Dallas does  have new receiver Roy Williams now, so we’ll see.  Ideally, I’d love to see 77-0, but that’s just me.
#18 Texas Christian and #5 Oklahoma are off this week.
We’re back Monday with the recap.  In the meantime, Bucky is a 14-point favorite at home against UMinnehaha, and the question this week for HDD is – will the Axe stay in Madison for a fifth straight year?

Can Paul Bunyan’s Axe stay in Madison? Good grief, I hope so. The Minnesota Rusty Rodents got off to a great start for the year, but, once they started getting pummeled by mediocre Big Ele…err…Ten teams, it appears that they were padding their stats on cream puffs and cup cakes.
If the Badgers play like they did against the Hosers of Indiana, Bucky has a chance to keep the Axe. If they play like they have against everyone ELSE this year (the more likely scenario), they’re going to need a bit, or maybe a lot, of help from the Rusty Rodents. Which isn’t actually out of the realm of possibility. I remember a game three years ago where the Rusty Rodents led with about 1:00 left on the clock…and lost when their punt was blocked in the end zone.
I really do hope that, if Bucky loses this game, Barry fires up his resume search engine. We’re getting Yugo performance out of the Ferrari Coach Bielema was given.
