Hm.  So now I’m a “right-wing radical” and an “extremist”.
The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in “rightwing extremist activity,” saying the economic recession, the election of America’s first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.
A footnote attached to the report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines “rightwing extremism in the United States” as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.
I see.  So the Founding Fathers were themselves radicals & extremists.
Nice to know I’m in such honored company.
(U) Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

The more I’ve pondered this, the more I’ve realized that the jack-booted Nazis at Department of ‘Homeland’ ‘Security’ accidentally got something right in their summary.
Throughout history, it has been the veterans who have launched the revolutions, because, sorry to break it to you, but, veterans are the only class of citizen who have actually have the desire, drive AND training to protect their nation from harm, real or imagined.
It was the veterans of the French and Indian Wars who formed the core of Washington’s volunteer army (especially the Continental Marines, who were, originally, recruited almost exclusively from colonials who had served in the Royal Marines. It’s not an accident that the United States Marine Corps and the Royal Marines are organized almost identically to each other.). Hitler recruited so many veterans of WWI into the National Socialist Party that several high ranking Nazi members felt compelled to invent histories in the military, so they would be taken seriously. The Communist Revolution was launched by Russian sailors sick of the ineptitude in fighting the war. The Roman Republic was ‘overthrown’ by legionnaires returning from Gaul.
If a nation wants to continue being a nation, it had really go out of its way to keep its veterans happy. I mean, REALLY out of its way. No other class of citizen has been shown, historically, to have as short a fuse with ineptitude.
