My faith in Wal-Mart may have been restored a little bit.

Went there yesterday to purchase a couple of items on which to munch for lunch.&#160 (Yeah, I know – but they were the only store around where I happened to be.)&#160 Came to the 20-items-or-less checkout to pay.

In front of me:&#160 a young black woman with a scowl on her face…and the bimbo in front of her, who had 40&#160 items in her basket if she had one.

(I hesitate to point out here that the bimbo looked very much like an illegal.&#160 Would not have surprised me had that been the case…but I digress.)

Apparently the young black woman had complained to management about the situation.&#160 “For all the good that’s&#160 gonna do her”, I thought…

…until another cashier relieved she who had&#160 been going to allow the 40+ items, and politely informed the illegal bimbo that she needed to find another line.

(Insert stares of wide-eyed disbelief here.&#160 &#160 )

First store I’ve ever been to in my life that actually cared enough about its other&#160 customers to enforce an item limit in the express line.

Thanks, Wal-Mart.&#160 Maybe you’re not all a bunch of morons, after all.

    Spats,
That’s actually not surprising. One of my dawughters worked for Walmart for a while. The policy is that they can only correct the 20 items or less rule if another customer complains. Why this is, I am not certain, but that is the rul. In this case, a customer complained, and the Store took action. The moral? Complain.

BTW, Said daughter who worked at Walmart? She started at well above minumum wage. Moral? The labor shmucks are clueless.

  2. The WallyWorlds here in the Hill Country (barring Austin, where they’re like reeking human zoos,) tend to enforce their 20-item rule. In fact they break a lot of the stereotypes that have sprung up around the franchise. And the jobs–even the part-time ones–pay well enough that I’ve entertained the thought of dropping them an app when Zane starts school.

The labor whiners are just jealous of ol’ Sam Walton’s success, if you ask me…

    I’m stucking funned!
Most places just let ’em get away with it. I usually make smart-assed comments to the cashiers, such as “Damned shame when grown people can’t count to 20, isn’t it?” I usually get some grouchy expressions, but at 5’10”, 195, tattooed, mid-back-length hair, biker jacket, etc., folks tend to leave me alone. Truth is, I’m really a nice guy. I just don’t look it.

  4. Nice to hear that rules can still mean something for those who are not white.

Walmart up here isnt that good. one of our managers from copps had to return something and was given teh run around.

I however, work expresslane. If i have had no express orders, ill take a big one if and only if we are swamped *seeing as how i can change my lane status on the fly&: however, i have learned to watch the customers at the end of the lines and will snd those away who have more.

It helps, though, if you have Microsoft Internet Explorer  set about 1024x768 1280x1024 with your Favorites window activated on the left deactivated.  (At least until I can get a better handle on how WordPress works.)

Mozilla Firefox doesn't do too badly, either; in fact, it's His Rudeness' browser of choice.
You can  use Nutscrape,  if you so desire - but why in blazes would you want to use a browser from a company that had to hide behind Janet El Reño's skirt to be successful?

And don't even  get me started on Opera or Chrome.  I'm not about  to trust any browser that won't let me change its color scheme.
