The Linux Experiment™ is just about over.
Apparently, there are never enough client slots available for the maybe  four-to-five apps I want to run at any one time.
Windows, as much as I hate it, never did this.
Stand by…
UPDATE:  Just as a point of clarification, I’ve got a quad AMD A8-5600K 3-point-something CPU with 16 gigs of RAM – and, even though I devote 50% to a Windows virtual machine, I should have enough to run Firefox, plus open an explorer window, command prompt, and the text editor on which I’m writing this, with at least a little bit left over.
And Linux is telling me I don’t have the capacity?!?!?!
Fuck that.

Not wanting to second guess a skilled professional, but currently have five different applications open(Firefox, Thunderbird, Libreoffice, Xiphos and a terminal window) and according to my system monitor, I am using only 40% of my 1.4 gigs of RAM, and 1.1% of an 8780 MB swap file. The CPU usage is hovering around 80%, but about 30% of that seems to be the monitor utility.
My machine is nowhere near as sexy as yours, it is am AMD Turion 64. Perhaps there is another issue?
One thing, is that all my applications are written for Linux.
Oh, it’s quite alright, Vicar – skilled professionals haven’t been able to figure it out, either.  At least, not for Ubuntu.
