I’m sorry, Vicar or not, if I were In Afghanistan, and this Rule came down, I would absolutely have to break it!
Andy Rooney has died.
Now, Mother always said never to speak ill of the dead, and that if you couldn’t say something nice about someone, then don’t say anything.
So, I’ll just note that liberal Andy Rooney, who occasionally was mildly humorous on 60 Minutes  has died, and let it go at that.
Most of you who know me very well know that I’ve come to detest dressing up.  Last suit I owned was one bought for me by My Dear Sainted Mother™, a powder blue vested number that actually still fit as little as five years ago.  Did buy a jacket and matching slack that passed for a suit once – and should I ever get back down to around 200, that might fit again.
(Don’t laugh – I’ve lost about five pounds in the last week or so.)
Anyway, the point of all this is a little outfit called Men’s Wearhouse.  You know – the outfit (pun partially intended) owned by a toothy little fella, one George “I Guarantee It” Zimmer.
Whom, it’s just been discovered, has thrown in with the bastard Occupussies.
Over the years, I’ve spent quite a bit of money at Mens Wearhouse, in the low four figures. They generally have a good selection of clothing at pretty good prices, and in the Twin Cities have conveniently-located stores. Overall I’ve been a pretty satisfied customer. After this week, though, they won’t see a dime from me, thanks to their support of the anti-free market mobs in Oakland that ravaged the city over the last couple of weeks.
“Read it all”, as our old frenemy Straight Up With Sherri might say.
I’ve been in a Men’s Wearhouse a time or two in my life.
Never again.  I guarantee it.
Denizens, we’re going to start this edition of the Perfect Football Weekend™ with a game of “Whatever Happened To…” starring Widdle Terri Owens.
Seems he’s still trying to make it back to the NFL – and he apparently has a damned good reason.
Times are tough for Terrell Owens — so much so the currently former NFL star is asking a judge to lower his child support payments … TMZ has learned.
Owens, who is currently not an NFL roster, wants to reduce the payments he’s making for a son he shares with baby mama Monique Reynolds … because, according to his rep, he’s simply not getting paid these days.
The rep says Owens wants to make the payments a little more reasonable, adding, “His child support payments should mirror his income today and not be based on his income from over four years ago.”
That’s right, sportz fanz – Mr. “25 Million Reasons Not To Off Himself” appears to be a little tapped out at the moment.  Does make it kinda hard to support your kiddos when you don’t have any more access to Owner Jethro’s megabucks, y’know?
Problem is, it’s not likely he’ll be on anyone’s roster anytime soon – no one seems to be interested.
When Terrell Owens(notes) showed up at Calabasas High School outside of Los Angeles on Tuesday morning for a workout that would ostensibly show the NFL what the 37-year-old receiver had left just six months after ACL surgery, he was a man nearly alone. Aside from a scattering of media (led by the NFL Network, which televised the workout), there were no confirmations of attendance from NFL teams, and no team gear on the sidelines, according to Lindsay Soto of the NFL Network.
Oh, but that shouldn’t be a problem for Widdle Terri.  After all, there’s ten years of tape on him doing what he does…right?
Right?
Um…okay.
On with the actual on-field stuff.  It’s the last game of the regular season for my Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets, as they’ll take on Dunbar prior to their annual one-and-done playoff run.  And it does appear that Vincent Berrones has supplanted Omar Valadez as the starting Heights quarterback, at least if the Western Hills game is any indication (Berrones was 5 of 10; Valadez, oh-for-one).
Dunbar isn’t terrible, just average (as in, up-and-down average).  But I don’t give much chance to a squad that eked out a one-point win over Carter-Riverside.  Heights should get by Dunbar comfortably here.
Saturday, Gary Patterson’s Texas Christian Horned Frogs are up in Laramie to play the UWyoming Cowboys.  Now, Vegas says TCU by 19 here, but I think it’s gonna be closer than that – weather says it’s gonna be in the 20s by halftime, and the Froggies don’t like cold weather all that much.  Field goal deci—uh, oh.
Also Saturday, Bob Stoops’ sixth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners get to start a new home win streak against the Aggies of Texas A&M.  A&M will give OU headaches the first half, then get blown away in the second.  No worries.
And, after what has seemed like the Bataan Death March™ for Bo Pelini’s 10th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers lately, comes a breather in the form of the Northwestern Wildcats at Lincoln.  NW alternates between being okay & being terrible, and in the Big Ten Eleven Eleven Plus One Ten this year, they’re kinda…terrible.
Nebraska’s an 18-point favorite at home.  Seems solid to me.
Sunday, the Seattle Seahags come a-callin’ against the Dallas Cowgirlz and “El Choko” Romo.  This looks like Dallas-St. Louis all over again – Tavaris Jackson’s the ‘Hag QB, though I don’t even know if he’s playing right now.  And that’s about it – I couldn’t tell you a single skill player on their roster, now that TJ Houshmahoushmahoushmawhatever has signed with Da Raaiiiiiduuuuuhhhhs & reunited with Carson “Bust” Palmer.
Dallas will win this one.  There goes my PFW.
We’re back Monday or so with the recap.  In the meantime, Bucky will have an easy win over Purdue at Camp Randall, and KU looks to keep from getting mauled versus an Iowa State team that shredded Texas Dick-head-i-logical (snicker) last weekend.
And my question for HDD this week is…how does Bret Bielema get Bucky to play a full 60 minutes?
Maybe I should declare half  of a PFW.
Arlington Heights 35, Western Hills 7
TCU 38, BYU 28 (at Cowboys Stadium)
#9 Oklahoma 58, at #8 Kansas State 17
at #14 Nebraska 24, #11 Michigan State 3
at Phuckadelphia 34, Dallas 7
Really short recap, Denizens, since time’s at a premium.
—
I guess Western Hills isn’t as good as I thought.
—
TCU couldn’t stop Riley Nelson all night.  Which turned out to be okay, as no one else for the Cougars was doing much of anything.
—
Guess K-State doesn’t have a secondary, either. Landry torched ’em for 505 passing yards & five TDs.
—
Now this  is the Blackshirt defense I’ve been waiting all year to see.  They shut the Spartans down cold.
—
Memo to Rob Ryan:  Perhaps you could wait to start crowing about something until after you’ve already done  it, hm?
I’m gonna go ahead and declare a PFW anyway, just for the fact that El Choko Romo got his head handed to him again.
This week:  5-0 (Romo getting his ass waxed counts).  Perfect Football Weekend achieved (4).  Overall:  36-8
The PFW will return on Thursday, when we play a game of “Whatever Happened To…”
